Coats disease is a nonhereditary condition of undetermined etiology characterized by telangiectatic and aneurysmal retinal vessels associated with subretinal and intraretinal exudation. It usually occurs unilaterally in young males and, if untreated, can lead to total retinal detachment and secondary glaucoma, sometimes requiring enucleation. The most common presenting complaints include decreased vision, strabismus, and leukocoria. In this review, the clinical features, diagnosis, pathophysiology, pathogenesis, differential diagnosis and treatment of Coats disease have been discussed.
