Ocular Toxoplasmosis: Epidemiology, Transmission, Pathogenesis, Population Biology, Clinical Manifestations, Diagnosis and Treatment
1M.D., Gazi University Faculty of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology, Beşevler, Ankara/TURKEY2M.D. Professor, Gazi University Faculty of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology, Beşevler, Ankara/TURKEY Toxoplasmosis is one of the most common parasitic zoonoses world-wide and ocular toxoplasmosis is one of the frequently identified causes of uveitis, It has been more than 100 years since Toxoplasma gondii was initially described, however there are recent clinical observations and laboratory findings which have led to a reassessment of many concepts about ocular toxoplasmosis. This review examines those developments in the pathophysiology of the disease and reassesses the relevant literature about the clinical manifestations of infection, diagnosis and tretament of ocular toxoplasmosis.
