Occlusion occurs in the central retinal vein or branch of the retinal vein. Clinical features and prognosis is associated with the location of the occlusion. The type of the occlusion, capillary perfusion status, presence of macular edema, duration of symptoms and visual function should be considered while planning the treatment of retinal vein occlusion. The most common cause of vision loss is macular edema. Macular edema and visual acuity deterioration might be reversible, but if left untreated it might terminate in permanent vision loss.
