Extrafoveal Choroidal Neovascularization in Vogt Koyanagi Harada Syndrome

4M.D. Associate Professor, Beyoglu Eye Training and Research Hospital, Istanbul/TURKEY To present a case of probable Vogt Koyanagi-Harada Syndome(VKH) with choroidal neovascularization(CNV) that was treated with argon laser photocoagulation. A 37 year old female patient was followed up for seven months at our clinic as a case of probable VKH syndrome with isolated ocular findings. The patient was under systemic cyclosporine treatment (200 mg/day) when she was admitted to our hospital, with bilateral anterior uveitis. Visual acuity was 20/25 in the right and 20/32 in the left eye. Fundoscopic examination of the right eye revealed a CNV, measuring one disc diameter, superior to the optic disc. We thermally ablated this CNV membrane with focal argon laser photocoagulation. At 1 month follow up after the argon laser treatment, visual acuity of the right eye was 20/25. Fundus florescein angiography showed scar formation and cessation of the CNV leakage. Choroidal neovascularization is a rare but severe complication of Vogt Koyanagi-Harada Syndrome. For extrafoveal choroidal neovascularization in these patients, argon laser photocoagulation is a useful and effective treatment modality.
