Ulucanlar Göz Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Göz Hastalıkları, Ankara Fovea plana is the absence of foveal pit with continuity of inner retinal layers in the fovea. Isolated fovea plana, lack of foveal pit without any associated ocular disorder, is less common; and it illustrates that the absence of a foveal pit does not necessarily result in a poor visual outcome. We hereby present optical coherence tomography (OCT) findings of two cases with isolated fovea plana, a father and his son, with a corrected visual acuity of 10/10 and without any ocular disorder besides refraction problems. Lack of prominent foveal refl ex is encountered during routine ophthalmological examination of a 44-year-old male patient. OCT imaging revealed bilateral lack of foveal pit with intact inner retinal layers across the fovea without thinning. After family screening, we also encountered isolated fovea plana on his 16-year-old son. These two cases draw attention to the patients without prominent foveal refl ex may have fovea plana, even if they have good visual acuity; and family screening is essential for revealing other cases in the family. Keywords : Fovea plana, optical coherence tomography
