EARLY TERM PARS PLANA VITRECTOMY RESULTS

46 eyes surgically treated with pars plana vitrektomy between June 1994 and May 1995 in our clinic were reviewed. The indications for vitrektomy included; PVR C2 to D3 in 14 eyes, traumatic vitreous hemorrhage and/or retinal detachment in 10 eyes, intraocular foreign body in 6 eyes, giant tear in 2 eyes, dislocated lens into the vitreous in 3 eyes, vitreous hemorrhage due to diabetic retinopathy in 5 eyes, CRVO in 4 eyes and uveitis in 2 eyes. The mean of follow up period was 5.8 months (1-10 months). Slicon oil (1000 cts) was used in 18 eyes as an internal tamponade. Visual acuity was improved in 28 eyes while vision was preserved in 16 eyes. Functional vision (minimum 0.1) was achieved in 16 eyes.
