SECONDARY GLAUCOMA AFTER RETINAL DETACHMENT SURGERY
Ziya KAPRAN1, Kadir ELTUTAR1, Murat UYAR1, Adil ÖZKAN1
SSK İstanbul Eğitim Hast. Göz Kliniği In a survey of 242 patients without glaucoma undergoing primary operations for retinal detachment, postoperative glaucoma was present in 10 (4.1 %) cases. There were primary open angle glaucoma in 4 (40 %), synechial angle-closure in 3 (30 %), angle-clousure after buckle in 3 (30 %) cases. Aphakic eyes and eyes with peripheral anterior synechiae had high prevalences of glaucoma. In any case in which retinal surgery is contemplated should have its ocular tension measured and should be examined with a gonioscope. If the filtration angle shows extensive peripheral anterior synechiae, the probability of postoperative glaucoma is increased. An anteriorly located scleral buckling should be avoided whenever possible. After a successful operation, the ocular pressure should be checked periodically. Keywords : Retinal detachment surgery, glaucoma
