TRAVMATIC OPTIC DISC EDEMA AND MACULAR STAR FORMATION

Purpose: To evaluate the causes of optic disc edema and macular star formation. Materials and Method: 30 years old woman complained about suddenly lost of vision in her right eye. She was examined due to her physicial and laboratory findings.
Results: Visual acuity was 0.05 in her right eye and 1.0 in the left. There was no anisocoria and direct-indirect light reactions, color discrimination, anterior segment examination were all normal. There was optic disc edema and macular star formation in the right fundus.
The patient was followed without given any medication and 1 mounth after her first examination her vision was 0.2 and at 3 mounth vision returned to 0.5.
Conclusion: Leber's Idiopathic stellate neuroretinitis is characterized by optic disc edema and macular star formation associated with no systemic or ocular disease and has a good visual prognosis. Because of its self limited character there is no need to medical treatment. Keywords : Optic disc edema, macular star, neuroretinitis
