Comparison Of Risk Factors In Central Retinal And Branch Retinal Vein Occlusion
Dokuz Eylül Üniv. Tıp Fak. Göz Hastalıkları AD.
Records of 37 central and 48 branch retinal vein occlusion patients were examined prospectively to determine the differences in risk factors associated with these two diseases. Distribution of patients by sex in two groups was significantly different (q=0.02). Other associated risk factors (hypertension, diabettes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, chronic open angle glaucoma, hematocrit, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, smoking, fibrinogen, prothrombin time, thrombin time) did not differ significantly in both groups in the favor of one. All patients with elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate also had other systemic conditions at the time of presentation with retinal vein occlusion. Only parsial thromboplastin time level was found significantly different in the favour of central retinal vein occlusion (q=0.04).
