Fırat Üniv. Tıp Fak. Göz Hast. AD.
We reviewed 81 eyes of 41 patients who underwent argon laser photocoagulation for diabetic maculopathy. There were nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy in 37 eyes (%45.7), preproliferative diabetic retinopathy in 33 eyes (%40.7) and proliferative diabetic retinopathy in 11 eyes (%13.6). Focal maculopathy in 45 eyes (%55.5) and diffuse maculopathy in 36 eyes (%44.5) were diagnosed by clinical examination and fundus fluorescein angiography. The pretreatment mean visual acuities in focal maculopathy and diffuse maculopathy groups were 0.49±0.35 and 0.46±0.29 respectively. After a mean follow up period of 12.59±9.27 months, the mean postreatment visual acuities in focal and diffuse maculopathy groups were 0.45±0.35 and 0.43±0.30 respectively. In conclusion, decrease in post treatment visual acuity in comparison with pretreatment levels was observed in both groups, but this decrease was statistically insignificant.
