2Cerrahpaşa Tıp Fakültesi, İç Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı, Hematoloji Bilim Dalı, İstanbul Purpose: To study the effect of silicone oil on platelet aggregation under in vitro conditions in patients with diabetes mellitus.
Materials and Methods: The study was performed in blood of 3 diabetic patients who are known to be under bad metabolic control at the last 3 months(study group) and healthy adults(control group). 1000 cs silicone oil were used in experiments. The experiments were performed in thrombocyte rich plasma by using aggregometer. Adenosine diphosphate(ADP), adrenaline(ADR) and collagen(Col) were used as aggregating agents. Results were obtained as the percentage of maximal aggregation. Chi-square test was used for statistics.
Results: Silicone oil has exerted an antiagregating effect as 19% with ADP, 12% with ADR and 11% with Col in the blood of diabetics. In control group, ıt has shown an antiagregating effect as 17% with ADP, 2 % with ADR, and 12% with Col . The results of study group and controls revealed no significant difference(p >0.05, chi-square test).
Conclusion: Silicone oil has antiiagregating effect on thrombocytes of patient with diabetes mellitus. This effect is not statistically significant when compared to controls.
