A 34-year-old man presented with decreased vision in both eyes. Fundus examination revealed retina pigment epithelium changes along with well-circumscribed areas of chorioretinal atrophy and baring of large choroidal vessels in both eyes. In fundus autofluorescence imaging obtained by a scanning laser ophthalmoscope, hypoautofluorescence corresponding to the atrophic areas and speckled hyperautofluorescence in the remaining macular regions were detected. Additionally, a hyperautofluorescent circle was observed in perifoveal areas in both eyes. Fundus autofluorescence is a noninvasive imaging method that may be used for the diagnosis and follow-up of hereditary macular dystrophies and may reveal additional data that are not obtained by both ophthalmoscopy and fundus angiography.
