M.D. Professor, Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology, Ankara/TURKEY
Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is a macular disease characterised by central vision loss. Several treatment modalities are being studied to decrease the progression rates of this disease which affects quality of life greatly. In the last decade there's a growing body of evidence that nutritional supplementation including macular pigments, antioxidant vitamins and minerals and Omega 3 free fatty acids may slow the progression. This review article will discuss and summarize the existing evidence.
