Retinal arterial macroaneurysms are acquired aneurysmal dilatations of the retinal arteries that usually occur in elderly hypertensive people and characterized by macular edema, multilevel retinal hemorrhage (subretinal, intraretinal, preretinal) and vitreous hemorrhage. Hyperfluorescence is seen on fluorescein angiography. Although spontaneous closure may occur, indications for laser treatment include vision loss due to chronic macular exudates or edema.
