Bruch’s Membrane Dystrophies

Bruch's membrane (BM) is a collagen-rich pentalaminar structure, which is located between the retina and the general circulation and regulating the diffusion of biomolecules. Recently, interest in BM has increased exponentially; because of its crucial role in retinal function, aging and ocular disease. Dystrophies of BM comprise a group of inherited diseases characterized by bilateral fundus abnormalities and visual acuity loss.and commonly manifest at early age of life. These dystrophies are classified into 4 large groups: Myopic degeneration, angioid streaks, age related macular dystrophy and pseudoinflammatory macular dystrophy (Sorsby's macular dystrophy). In this paper, the author review clinical findings, prognosis, the results of new treatment strategies in BM dystophies.
