Retina-Vitreous

Ophthalmic microendoscope which has been used recently in different fields of ophthalmology has a probe that provides simultaneous viewing via a fiberoptic, in addition to illumination and endolaser fibers. There are also xenon light source for intraocular illumination, micro video camera which is used to process the image obtained by the probe and display it on the video monitor, video recorder for recording the endoscopic image, and diode laser that provides laser energy for endophotocoagulation.
Ophthalmic microendoscope is useful during vitreoretinal surgery for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes particularly when anterior segment conditions, such as corneal edema and opacity, miosis, lens opacities, preclude a posterior view or when conventional methods of viewing (the operating microscope and vitrectomy lenses ) do not permit adequate visualization of posterior iris region, ciliary body and far retinal periphery.
This system--does not substitute the current techniques and methods of vitreoretinal surgery but it can be used as a complementary technique in the case of inability and limitation of the current methods.
