Ankara Numune Hastanesi 1. Göz Kliniği
In the last decade there are a lot of articles about iatrogenic retinal phototoxicity because of the use of powerful light sources during the eye surgery. Phototoxic retinal lesions due to the operating microscope has been reported after cataract extraction, refractive surgeries, glaucoma and vitrectomy operations. It has been asserted that phototoxic effect occurs by destruction of biologic membranes or inactivation of vital enzymes by unstable free radicals. It also occurs in retina pigment epithelium and photoreceptors. In this article; physiopathology, clinical findings, risk factors and preventive methods of iatrogenic retinal phototoxicity has been reviewed.
