SPONTANEOUS REGRESSION IN PROLIFERATIVE DIABETIC RETINOPATHY
Kocaeli Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Göz Hastalıkları A.D.
38 years old woman suffering decrease in bilateral visual acuity was referred to our clinic. Visual acuities were 2/10 in right eye and 1/10 in the left one. Medical history of the patient included diabetes mellitus for 12 years and previous thyroid surgery 2 months before. Fundus fluorescein angiography revealed that bilateral cystoid macular edema and optic disc neovascularization despite lack of capillary non-perfusion areas. Carotid and ophthalmic doppler ultrasonographic studies revealed normal results. The patients had no ocular therapy except systemic diabetic metabolic control. The re-examination at the end of a 3 months period, revealed improvement in visual acuities of both eyes and regression of optic disc neovascularizations.
