Materials and Methods: Twenty-four eyes with proliferative diabetic retinopathy included in this study. Group 1: 8 eyes had 10 mg intravitreal triamcinolone at the end of conventional PPV. Group 2: 8 eyes had intravitreal triamcinolone following the corevitrectomy and freefloating triamcinolone was removed by aspiration. Group 3 (Control): 8 eyes had conventional PPV. The best corrected visual acuity (BCVA); intra ocular pressure (IOP), biomicroscopic and fundus examinations were performed at postoperative 1th week, 1th and 3rd months.
Results:There was not a significant difference between the groups for IOP and BCVA. Inflammatory reaction was less in Group 1 and removal of posterior cortical vitreous was easier in Group 2.
Conclusion: Triamcinolone can be used following corevitrectomy or at the end of the PPV in proliferative diabetic retinopathy cases.
