³Ankara Numune Hastanesi, Göz Hastalıkları, Ankara, Doç. Dr Purpose: To investigate anddiscus our results in patients having proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) that underwent pars plana vitrectomy (PPV).
Materials and Methods: PPV results of 116 eyes 90 patients with PDR (ages betwen 34-83, Female/Male: 51/39) betwen July 2004- April 2008 were studied retrospectively. Preoperative and postoperative ocular findings, visual acuty and intraoperative complications were documented. Lens extraction was performed when needed. Operations were performed with standart three-port PPV setting. Core vitrectomy, dissection and excision of membranes, removal of the tractions, gase perflorocarbone, endolaser, intravitreal triamcinolone injection, silicone oil, circling scleral buckling procedures were applied.
Results: There were dense vitreous hemorrhage in 74 eyes (63%), tractional retinal detachment in 43 eyes (37%), anterior proliferative retinopathy in 18 eyes (15%), rhegmatogeneus retinal detechament in 7 eyes (6%), cataract causing difficult in visualitaion of the posterior in 21 eyes (18%). Retina reattachment was obtained in 42 eyes (84%). Postoperative visual acuity increase was found meaningful
Conclusion: PPV procedure has favorable effects on the anatomical and visual prognosis in eyes with PDR. Keywords : Diabetic retinopathy, pars plana vitrectomy
